TriPoint Church of God has been serving the community of Alpena Michigan since 1927. What began as a burden on the heart of John Kolar in 1925 was joyously revealed in 1927. In 1927, through Brother Kolar's faithfulness and God's provision, this congregation began to grow. What began in Cottage Prayer Meetings grew, and in a short period of time, this young church outgrew the home that they were meeting in. They were able to secure a building to rent, that was a former "saloon." The members moved in, did some cleaning up and renamed the old saloon. The new name became the "Gospel Hall." God continued to add to the members of the church and it outgrew the Gospel Hall and moved to the old Lockwood School building on the corner of Fourth and Lewis streets. The church remained at this location for 33 years. In 1968, the congregation broke ground on the current building and held the first services in this facility on November 23rd, 1969.

In the 1950's the members of the church began a re-enactment of the Nativity scene and has continued that tradition since. Every December, we dress in costumes, bring in goats, and a donkey and act out the events that took place around the birth of our Savior. The community is always invited to this event and thousands have come to see our "Living Nativity."

 

Through ups and downs, there has been a faithful core of believers that have prayed, served and loved this community and continues to seek ways that we can engage with our neighbors.
